Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control (LMMFC) is actively seeking Machining & Fabrication candidates for the Engineering & Prototype Laboratory (EPL) facility. EPL provides Engineering & Fabrication support for the Research & Development (R&D) teams within LMMFC.
As a Machinist / Model Maker you will be required to work independently with support from the EPL Staff Engineering team utilizing Drawings and 3D Models to develop the Fabrication process and generate NC Code utilizing a CAD/CAM system in a “Build to Print” Machining environment. Machine and Fabricate complex experimental, developmental and prototype hardware and assemblies having multiple set-ups, compound angles, irregular surfaces and exacting tolerances using Multi Axis Mills, Lathes and MillTurns including full 5 Axis Contouring Machining. Responsibilities among others include Planning, Tooling, Work Holding, Fabricating Fixtures, NC Programing and Measuring Machined hardware and assembles at our facility or in the field. Prepare hardware for test or fabrication, with only broad specifications, design criteria, or general approach to the assignment. The method of execution is largely up to the Machinist with the final results relying on the Machinist's skill and knowledge to ensure the parts or assemblies conform to all Engineering requirements.

Duties
- You will program and operate computer-numerical-control (CNC) machine tools, and utilize computers for part programming and input/output of production control data, able to do CNC programming utilizing CAD/CAM software.
- You will discuss concepts of typical models with engineers, scientists, or technicians to determine use, operational characteristics, and configuration, and also may design the products or participate as a member of a design or development team.
- You will select work methods and materials to be used to plan the sequence of operations on the basis of time schedules, tolerances allowed, strength of materials, mechinability, weldability, formability, rigidity, corrosion resistance, and friction.
- You will perform complex fabrication and assembly, and assume the responsibility of the complete model by planning and coordinating the work of other employees assigned to the project.

This Role In Summary
Whirlpool is looking for qualified candidates for the role of Model Shop Supervisor in the Model Shop Team within the Cross Category Technology organization. This position is located at the St. Joseph Tech Center, MI. In this role you will provide prototype full scale models and components to support all aspects of Global Consumer Design activity.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Supervise the model shop
- Partner with industrial designers and engineers
- Implement specific short term/ long term goals/ objectives
- Assign work requests to model makers
- Prioritize / balance the requests
- Provides technical consultation assistance to design group
- Deliver prototype parts to the requested quality levels (low fidelity to Hi-Fi complete models)
- Deliver prototype parts on time.
- Drive targeted process improvements
- Implement facility / people safety system within assigned model shop
- Manage people career growth plans
- Improving percentage of prototype requests completed on time
- Model shop efficiency measure
- Reducing quantity of outsourcing
- Safety (5S, Safety Audit findings, Accidents)

Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- 5+ years of experience with physical prototyping process (including material, usage, tooling, techniques and finishes)
Preferred Skills And Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or design or journeyman's certificate in this trade
- 2+ years of People management and developing employees
- Experience with Process Improvement & Lean
