The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Model Maker (WG-4714-11T13) to work for the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) in the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Salary Range: $31.42 to $36.64 per hour (at WG-11 Grade)

Qualifications:
In this position, you will serve as a model maker for the Air Force Packaging Technology & Engineering Facility. You will machine, weld, and fabricate parts and assemblies for long-life shipping and storage containers and support equipment.
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Obtain & Maintain Security Clearance
  • This may be designated a Drug Testing Position
  • Certifications/Licensure – Certified Welder (Aluminum) – preferred, not required
  • The employee must meet the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position.
  • Performs machining, welding, and sheetmetal operations, working with a wide range of materials (most commonly aluminum).
  • Plans, lays out, and selects machining and welding processes to fabricate/assemble prototypes form blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, work orders, and engineering requests.
  • Sets up and operates a variety of conventional, computer numerical control (CNC) mills, lathes, press brakes, and welding machines (tungsten inert gas (TIG) and metal inert gas (MIG)).
  • Develops patterns, fixtures, and work holding devices to assist with fabrication processes.
  • Operates a variety of power tools, hand tools, and equipment. Uses precision measuring instruments to perform quality checks and inspections.

With a growing order book and some very exciting projects on the horizon, we are on the look out for skilled, motivated, organised people with experience of making scale models and exhibition pieces to join us in our Bristol workshop.

Amalgam has a wide client base: from International Architects, Yacht Designers, Aeronautical Engineers and Exhibition designers as well as Industrial designers and International consumer Brands. All of which call on us to produce a mind boggling array of things.

Our diversity is our strength and our well-equipped facilities allow us to create almost anything: all under one roof.

We require skilled people for a selection of roles, including:
Experienced Architectural model makers (senior model makers)
Experienced Maritime/scale model makers (Good 3D CAD skills would be an advantage)
Experienced Model makers (Good all-round skillset would be an advantage)
All candidates should have:
At least 3-5 years of industry experience.
A good knowledge of all workshop machinery and tools including circular saw, band saw, pillar drill, sanding disc, laser cutter. Lathe and Mill would be an advantage as would experience of spray painting.
excellent communication skills.
A good level of 2D CAD knowledge (3D CAD would be an advantage).
An understanding of electronics and wiring would also be an advantage.

Position Summary

The Model Maker is responsible for prototype fabrication to support product development. This includes bringing a product from idea/concept through design, prototyping, development, testing, design verification and validation, manufacturing, and product introduction. This individual will also be responsible for maintenance of the machines including calibration, regularly scheduled maintenance, and routine servicing.

Working Hours: 2nd Shift, 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM; M-F

Essential Functions
  • Utilizes CNC and manual equipment including mills, lathes, and EDM for fabricating models, prototypes, test parts, and low volume production of instruments and implants
  • Participates and provides input in design meetings and ‘brainstorming’ sessions
  • Ensures that all machines and measurement equipment are calibrated regularly as needed and in compliance with Globus’ quality system
  • Performs routine maintenance and services machines to ensure smooth, trouble free operation
  • Maintains clean work environment by regular cleaning and upkeep
  • Assists in process / tooling development for manufacturing
  • Adheres to the letter and spirit of the company Code of Conduct, the AdvaMed Code, MedTech Code, and all other company policies. Ensures Compliance with applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations, both in the United States and internationally, by completing introductory and annual training and maintaining knowledge of compliance as it applies to your role

Qualifications
  • 5+ years’ experience in Machining/Tool & Die making or model making, preferably in the medical device area
  • Ability to proficiently use CNC and manual mills, lathes, and EDM machines
  • Mastercam or related CAM experience a plus
  • High school diploma required
  • Proven creative skills in design and ability to improve existing designs
  • Strong self-starter who can work with little or no supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively within a fast-paced environment
  • Well organized, detail oriented and team player capable of meeting deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
