About this Opportunity
As Model Maker Associate, you'll build prototypes, models, and mock-ups to a degree of completion required by Design/Development Teams for proper evaluation and/or presentation. You will work from sketches, layout drawings, completed detailed drawings, and CAD data as available, all in accordance with a predetermined schedule and/or priorities.

•Achieve and maintain a depth and breadth of technical proficiency of new modeling techniques and apply to projects.
•Assist in the determination of materials, methods, procedures, and technologies used in building models and prototypes.
•Design and build fixtures or molds as needed to aid in the building of models and prototypes.
•Develop and/or build models, prototypes, and mock-ups in the most feasible way per customer requirements, goals, and objectives.
•Interact effectively with internal and external resources including Model Makers, Model Shop Manager, outside vendors, suppliers, designers, Engineers, plant personnel, Program Managers, and other appropriate resources.
•Perform responsibilities in a safe and organized manner in appliance with state, federal, and company policy.
•Provide vital feedback to the Model Maker, Model Maker Senior, and customers on completed projects.
•Receive workload requirements and direction from the Model Maker, Model Maker Senior, Model Shop Lead, and Work Team Leader.
•Take strong ownership in projects and provide vital feedback to customers on completed projects.
•Utilize standard Model Shop equipment such as lathe, mill, saws, hand tools, and inspection equipment with limited guidance from others.
•Work with the Model Maker and Model Maker Senior in the development of skills related to Model Shop equipment and materials.
•Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

You might be just who we're looking for if you have...
•A U.S. Department of Labor Journeyman's Card for Design Model Maker or an Associate's degree in Model Making.
•One to five years of experience in a Design/Development Model Shop.
•Good competence and creative skills.
•A basic understanding of and experience working with a variety of materials such as clay, wood, metal, sheet metal, plastics, epoxies, urethanes, and metal castings.
•Familiarity with industrial design concepts and processes.
•A basic understanding of manufacturing processes related to wood, metal forming, and plastic.
•The ability to utilize all of the Model Shop's equipment and processes.
•Well-developed conceptual, analytical, and communication skills.
•Familiarity with the Rapid-Prototyping and Rapid-Tooling industry and processes.
•The ability to make sound decisions without all relevant data present.
•The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
•The ability to solve problems with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
•The ability to be a self-starter, reliable, motivated in your work, and to work well in a team environment.
•A demonstrated ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools currently used in the Herman Miller office environment.
•A basic knowledge of Product View and Solid View.
•A basic understanding of the modeling technologies and equipment used in CAD/CAM, Product Visualization, and FEA.
•The ability to perform all essential job functions of the position with or without accommodations.
