For mocking up overmolds on consumer electronic models, we used to use Akzo Nobel's soft touch finish (can't remember the name of it, it's been years ago). It was reliable and had a great feel after it dried. Sadly, they went to a model where they wouldn't sell it in anything less than a 50-gallon drum, and we couldn't even get through a 5-gallon can of it before it'd go bad on us. Good as it was, we just weren't willing to see that much product go to waste. So we switched to Alsa's soft touch offering. We've never liked the cured feel of it as much though, and have noticed more issues with it not curing properly as we've worked with it longer.
I'm just wondering if anybody else out there is having good results with any soft-touch topcoats from other manufacturers. We need to be able to buy it in realistic model shop quantities (no more than 5 gallons at a time), and it needs to minimally impact the color of the painted surface below it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
