Here are some double-sided tapes and a remover that came highly recommended by various people at a recent Meet-up:

I use the 3M Adhesive transfer tapes: 3M 924, Light Industrial for a tape that isn't totally permanent and 3M 969 Heavy Duty, for a "Dear god! It won't let go" kind of hold. Add that with a Adhesive transfer tape gun and it is amazing. No more worrying about the paper backing again.

Total game changer for my shop.

3M 9832 is amazing, I use it for everything.

Formulated to bond laminate to MDF permanently, but can be taken apart and pulled off. It's changed how I build models.

I train architects in an architectural model shop, and I show its strength by taping two 1-2-3 blocks together end to end, and then lift, wiggle, and hold the assembly horizontally.

You can get it on Amazon.

A conversation in our Tool Talk meetup earlier focused on preferred double-stick tapes for various applications, particularly holding down parts to a mill. I wanted to start a thread here to serve as repository for all your favorite go-to double-sided tapes. Make sure to mention if you have any special tricks for removing them cleanly, special applications they excel at, any other notes you think are worth sharing. (Note there is a similar thread in this forum already, which focused more specifically on clear double-sided tapes).

Our shop has used this paper-backed, rubber-adhesive-based tape from McMaster-Carr for years. https://www.mcmaster.com/mounting-tape/construction~paper/

It works great for holding parts down to the mill, also just great for general shop use. Hit it with some isopropyl alcohol for a quick and clean release, leaving no residue.

Including an image of the catalog page so you can see the tape widths and current prices (as well as the search parameters and key words in case they change the link at some point).
