kEYNOTE SPEAKER - SATURDAY, MARCH 4 AT 12:00 pm
Our esteemed Keynote Speaker is Gerry Michaud from the University of Cincinnati’s School of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning (DAAP). In 2006 he and 3 other DAAP Industrial Design professors made the short list of top-ranked Design School Faculty in the US. Through his extensive experience in Design Gerry employs a practical sense of model making and form-giving. He emphasizes the trust that a student needs to have in the process and the professor that their professional formation will come together in a meaningful and long-lasting foundation of good form and well-thought-out design.
Through his many years of teaching Gerry brought 3D CAD to DAAP and for many years served as the Materials and Processes professor, emphasizing the proper making of the product while still emphasizing beautiful form. Through his education background and continued service to DAAP he has a unique touchpoint with who the future model maker is and can be. He is uniquely qualified and positioned to coach the students in the construction of models and products, and can speak to who they are and where they come from. We look forward to hearing his unique take on the importance of those hand skills, but also a good sense of problem solving and form giving.
PAST PRESIDENTS PANEL - SUNDAY, MARCH 5 AT 12:00 PM
To celebrate and commemorate the APMM's 30th year in 2023, we're assembling a panel of past (and current) leaders. With the unique insight of those who persevered against all odds to bring about this one-of-a-kind organization and keep it going, we might envision not only the future of the APMM but of the model making profession itself.
Take a jog down memory lane with us as we discuss where model making has been, where it is now, and where it could be headed.
