Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a 3D Studio Technician​ opening in our Global Consumer Design​ department.

What does the GCD 3D Studio (Model Shop) do:
This group produces prototype full-scale models to support all aspects of Global Consumer Design activity. This includes supporting the advanced design studio and all category production design studios. Level of models range from very simple low fidelity component models all the way through to high fidelity, fully functional, complete appliance models (these High Fidelity models look exactly like a factory built unit). Sizes range from small countertop appliances and accessories to large capacity built-in refrigerators. The work requires a creative and flexible approach to ensure success,
high quality and on time deliverables.


Day to Day (what a typical day or week looks like in this role)

As a 3D Studio Technician you will need to partner with 3D Studio Team Members, Management, Industrial Designers and Studio Engineers from all of the GCD studios.

The role demands excellent communication skills, the ability to change direction frequently, and an ability to track several jobs relating to model builds consistently.

What You Will Do
  • Disassemble and reassemble product/models.
  • Assist the 3D Studio team members in the construction of high quality, detailed, prototype models using plastics, wood, metals, and various density foam materials.
  • Operate model shop equipment safely, such as: mills, table saws, bandsaws, and general shop hand tools.
  • Participate in planning of all significant model builds.
  • Own your assigned projects from beginning to end.
  • Communicate needs regarding resources, outsourcing, materials, etc to the shop supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Update the shop leadership daily on progress, with particular emphasis on any negative impact on quality or timing to any project.
  • Maintain effective partnerships with project requestors and other GCD disciplines.
  • Effectively document project activities and direction changes.
  • Drive and own 5S - (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)

What You Need To Succeed
  • A desire to work on new, innovative projects.
  • Work in a team environment with other multi-talented individuals.
  • Excellent personal, organizational and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Ability to stay calm in the face of stressful projects and tight deadlines (expect multiple scope changes on projects)
  • Ability to finish and paint models would be an added advantage.
  • Take responsibility for modeling activity on multiple projects.
  • Have dependable transportation

Experience Level:
  • Related Experience within Automotive, Aerospace, Consumer Products industries.
  • Knowledge of mechanical assembly
  • Knowledge of woodworking processes and basic tooling

Skills:
  • Excellent communication - verbal and written.
  • Operate model shop equipment safely, such as: mills, table saws, bandsaws, and general shop hand tools.
  • Work flexible hours and able to work weekends as needed to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet challenging deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs - with or without assistance.
  • Experience using a 3D CAD systems (Pro-Engineer (ProE) Rhino, SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of Google Suites applications, Magics and Adobe Illustrator software a plus.
  • Knowledge of 3D printers and laser engraving equipment a plus.
